Here is a Great Way to Keep Workers’ Comp Claims to a Minimum

Injured worker alternate duty programYour worker is injured and is unable to perform his or her duties. Looks like you’re in for a long recovery period and a large Workers’ Compensation claim unless… you’ve established an Alternate Duty Program.  Just because a worker can’t do their main job doesn’t mean you can’t find something for them to do that is not affected by their injury.

Setting up a formal ADP can result in lower Workers’ Comp costs.

  • One of the most important elements of a successful Alternate Duty Program is making sure that the lines of communication are open between the treating physician, the employee, and the claims adjuster.

If all parties are aware that there is light duty work available it will decrease the amount of time spent on full disability and keep your worker productive and active, speeding up an eventual return to full work duties.

Having an Alternate Duty Program cuts down on fraud.

  • If a worker is claiming an injury that is not true, it is a lot easier to hide that fact at home.

Having to come in everyday and work adds a layer of complexity to the fraud that very few people can pull off. In fact, if your workers are aware of your alternate duty program from the get-go the odds of them filing a false claim drop precipitously because of the degree of difficulty maintaining a false injury under daily scrutiny.
